Here’s an overview of key documents you might receive and what each of them means:

Checklist Clip

Acknowledgment of Receipt (AOR)
Confirmation from IRCC that they have received your application

Biometrics Request
You are required to provide biometric information for security and identification purposes

Medical Examination Instructions
Held to ensure they do not pose a public health risk to Canada

Interview Appointment Letter
A formal letter that summons you in front of a visa officer who asks questions and verifies your documentation

Passport Request
Generally, this means your application is at the final stage of processing and that a decision has been made. The passport will be needed to issue a visa if approved

Decision Letter
A letter from the visa office that either grants or denies your application:

  • Approval: This letter will confirm your refugee status and provide further instructions
  • Denial: This letter will explain why the application was denied and instructions for the appeal

PR Visa
An official document that grants you permission to enter Canada as a refugee with permanent resident status

COPR
Confirms your status as a permanent resident in Canada

Landing Papers (Immigrant Visa and Record of Landing)
Essential for obtaining Canadian identification documents, like a Social Insurance Number (SIN) and health care coverage.
